Major Mental Health Charity calls for action this Mental Health Awareness Week

MENTAL Health Awareness Week (May 13-19) is all about starting conversations and taking action to improve mental well-being. This year the theme is movement, so why not take a step towards a healthier mind and body – literally!

Get ready to walk your way to a happier, healthier you during Mental Health Awareness Week!

South East London Mind is inviting you to join their #20MindfulMiles Challenge, a 7-day step challenge designed to boost your mood, body, and community spirit – all while supporting a vital cause.

Here’s why you should join the #20MindfulMiles Challenge:

  • Move at your own pace: This challenge is designed for everyone, from seasoned walkers to those just starting out. Whether you run, jog, or take a leisurely stroll, every step counts towards the 20-mile goal (that’s just over 6,000 steps a day!).
  • Move your body, move your mind: Did you know walking is a fantastic mood booster? It can reduce stress, and anxiety, and even improve your sleep. Plus, those daily walks can be a great way to clear your head and boost your self-esteem.

There’s more to this challenge than just walking

  • Support a vital cause: Mental health services in Lambeth and Southwark are facing a surge in demand, with two of South East London Mind’s counselling services in the boroughs forced to close their waiting lists as a result. All proceeds from the #20MindfulMiles Challenge go directly to support these two vital local services, helping to reduce waiting times and get people the help they need.
  • Connect with a community: Join the Strava Club to connect with fellow walkers, share tips and experiences, and motivate each other along the way.
  • Move your way. Check out this handy list of activities across South East London to get you moving this week. Check out these activities in your borough.

Ready to walk for a cause?

Sign up for the #20MindfulMiles Challenge today and make a real difference in your community.

Celebrate your achievement!

Once you’ve conquered those 20 miles, South East London Mind want to see your victory! Take a selfie (optional, but fun!) and share it on social media. Here’s how:

  1. Snap a pic: Take a selfie or a photo celebrating your accomplishment.
  2. Show off your steps: Include a screenshot of your walking app that shows you’ve reached 20 miles!
  3. Tag and Hashtag: Tag @selmindcharity on Instagram and Twitter (or South East London Mind on Facebook and LinkedIn) and use the hashtag #20MindfulMiles
